Notes about the song:

It seems to be in 6/8 (or 3/4, I guess) time

INTRO TAB:

VERSES:

     A              E
On a distant shore, miles from land
G                                    D
Stands the ebony totem in ebony sand,
  A                  E
A dream in a mist of grey
B                A
On a far distant shore.

A                          E
The pebble, it stood alone
G                             D
And driftwood lies half buried
A                          E
Warm, shallow water sweeps shells
B              A
So the cockles shine.

A                      E
A bare, winding carcas stalk
G                              D
Shimmers as flies scoop up meat.
A
An empty way,
B          A
Dry Tears.

A                         E
Crisp flax squeaks.  Tall reeds
      G              D
Make a circle of grey
     A
In a summer way, around man
B         A
 so don't drown

BRIDGE:

(This is the long section of strummed chords.  I'll count measures
in 6/8 in the following way:

  ------  ------ ------
  G       C      D      means a measure of G, one of C and one of D)

unusual chords used:
     Cadd9:  x32030

begin bridge:

  ------ ------ ------ ------ ------ ------ ------ ------ ------ ------
  Cadd9  C      Bb            Cadd9  C      Bb     F       Esus4
  ------ ------
  E

  ------ ------ ------ ------ ------ ------ ------ ------ ------ ------
  C7            F          F# G             A      D      G

  ------ ------
 (still G)

This is then repeated, except that the second time I think that
the first chord is C7 instead of Cadd9.

CLOSING:

(Note, I am highly uncertain -even moreso than I am about the rest of this
song- about the "accuracy" of the transcription here.  Correct me, please!)

unusual chords used:

I don't know what to call these things, but they're based on
the chord x02200 which I think is either A5 or Asus2.

The chords and my (incorrect) names for them are:

           A:       x02220
           A5:      x02200
           A5addF#: x02202
           A5addG#: x02204

Begin closing:

A      A5addG#
I'm trying

A      A5addG#
I'm trying

A5addF# A5
To find you

A5addF# A5
To find you

A      A5addG#
I'm living

A      A5addG#
I'm giving

A5addF# A5
To find you

A5addF# A5
To find you

The next part I think uses only the A chord:

A
I'm living
I'm living
I'm trying
I'm giving
(Switch at this point to A5 and diddle with it for a while)

G#
Swan Lee got up at the runningford powwow and headed from the
            B
fire to his waiting canoe.
G#                                          B
Juttering squaw untied the wigwam door, the chief blew
           C#
smokerings two by two

G#
The land in silence stands

Swan Lee, his boat by a by the bank in the darkness loosened
the rope from the creepers entwined
A feather from the wing of a wild young eagle pointed to the
land where his fortune he'd find

The land in silence stands

Swan Lee paddled on from the land of his fathers his eyes
scanned the undergrowth on either side from the shore hung a
hot heavy creature infested tropic, Swan Lee had a bow by his
side

Swan Lee got in half on land half on water grizzly bear and
raccoon his fair
he followed his ears to the great waterfall for Swan Lee knew
people and his squaw was there

the land in silence stands

Suddenly the rush of the mighty great thunder confronted Swan
Lee as this song he sang
In the dawn with his squaw, he was battling homewards, it was
all written down by long Silas Lang

BIRDIE HOP

Chords Syd uses in the chorus:

   C#               A

B---9----9----9------10---10---10-------------
G---10---10---10-----9----9----9--------------

Note:  Syd hammers on an E note, you'll have to listen to see where

C#
Birdie hop, he hop along
                     A
a lonely bird upon a window there, he, he,

there he blow, a windy snow, he knew the snow, the hoppy bird

    A(open)
The antelope ride around a parasol
just to see if he's a man enough to you meet you in the sand pit
in a flying kind of sighing in a meddlesome bay
you know the way, I see the flies

A(open)
She's a little kite the sort you think you might like to fire and like a kite
you get to see her everynight
you know the way
she's only paving her way, hate to complain, I see the flies

C#
Birdie hop he do, he hop along
                     A
a lonely bird upon a window there, he, he

there he blow, the windy snow, a hoppy bird

  A(open)
A camel woke up to a polished dawn
wouldn't look to see his feet had gone, he wouldn't like it
wouldn't have the strength to fight it, I see the flies

A(open)
I'm the only bird, a little third, I lost a quarter, I had a yearning to be
earning just a dollar a day and in a way you shouldn't like it
hate to complain, I see the flies

until he no longer knows what he is doing and ends the song)

BOB DYLAN BLUES
words and music by Syd Barrett
from the "Best of" album

transcribed by James <allfallup@aol.com>

"Bob Dylan Blues" is one of Syd's earliest songs, supposedly written in 1963 after seeing Dylan. The chorus sounds a bit like "Hard Rain's Gonna Fall." It has what is probably the most traditional structure of any Syd song; it follows a verse/verse/chorus progression with a intro/outro that changes keys. Somehow, the recording is off by a quarter-step.  To play along with the disc, you have to tune your guitar up a quarter-step.  (Remember, not a full half-step, a quarter-step!!). I might have misheard a lyric or two; specifically, the line in the forth verse  about his wallet and something else are fat.  I think he says cat (or gut?)? Are the lyrics about Dylan making money a response to some folk cry of sellout? Lastly, Syd fumbles up the chords in the first chorus.  Instead of writing out what is obviously a mistake, I have instead written how the chords are played in the remaining two choruses.

Intro:
   G             D               G
E---3--------------2-------------3--------------2-------------
B---0--------------3-------------0--------------3-------------
G---0--------------2------0h2p0--0--------------2------0h2p0--
D---0-------0------0--0h2--------0-------0------0--0h2--------
A---2---0h2---2--0---------------2---0h2---2--0---------------
E---3----------------------------3----------------------------

    C           G     A    D   G
E---0-------------3---0----2---3------
B---1-------------0---2----3---0------
G---0------0------0---2----2---0------
D---2--0h2---2--0-0---2----0---0------
A---3-------------2---0--------2------
E-----------------3------------3------

        C
Got the Bob Dylan blues
        F
And the Bob Dylan shoes
       C                          G
And my clothes and my hair's in a mess
        G                         C
But you know I just couldn't care less

Gonna write me a song
'Bout what's right and what's wrong
About God and my girl an' all that                        ?
Quiet while I make like a cat

Chorus:
             C               G
'Cause I'm a poet, don't you know it
        C             F
And the wind, you can blow it
       F                  G
'Cause I'm Mr. Dylan, the king
        G                     C
And I'm free as a bird on the wing

Roam from town to town
Guess, I get people down
But I don't care too much about that
'Cause my gut and my wallet are fat

Make a whole lotta dough
But I deserve it though
I got soul and good heart of gold
So I'll sing bout war and the cold

Chorus & repeat intro

Well, I sings bout dreams
and I rhymes it with seams
and it seams that my dream always means
but I can prophesy all kinds of things

Well, the guy that digs me
Should try hard to see
That he buys all my discs in a hat
And when I'm in town go see that

Chorus & repeat intro

TWO OF A KIND

Although it is credited as a Syd song, it is most likely that it was Rick Wright who actually wrote it.
